Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based on Games Workshop's popular Warhammer fantasy universe. Developed by Mythic Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, the game focused heavily on large-scale player-versus-player (PvP) combat between the forces of Order and Destruction.
Players could choose from six unique races , divided into two main alliances:
- Order: Included the noble Humans of the Empire , the proud High Elves , and the resilient Dwarves .
- Destruction: It was composed of the brutal Orcs and Goblins , the ferocious Dark Elves and the chaotic hordes of Beastmen .
Each race offered several distinct classes , each with their own unique playstyle, abilities, and battlefield roles. The game featured an innovative objective-based PvP combat system , including Realm War (RvR) campaigns where thousands of players fought for control of territories, besieged enemy strongholds, and engaged in epic battles.
In addition to PvP, Warhammer Online offered a vast world to explore , with PvE (player versus environment) missions , dungeons , and dynamic public events that involved large groups of players. The profession system allowed players to craft useful items and trade with others.
Although Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning generated much anticipation upon its launch, the game's servers were permanently shut down on December 18, 2013. Despite its closure, the game left a legacy for its focus on massive PvP and its faithful representation of the dark and visceral world of Warhammer.
While no longer officially playable, Warhammer Online is still remembered by many as an MMORPG with a unique focus on faction warfare.
