Carlos Villanes was born in Yuali (Peru) on October 5, 1945. He devoted himself to literature until making it his profession. He has lived in Spain since 1983, where he obtained his doctorate in Hispanic Philology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He has collaborated in several newspapers in Spain and Latin America. In 1988 he was a finalist for the Wide Angle Award for Destination: Red Square, and was a finalist for this award again in 1990 with Return to Freedom. In 1989 he was included in the "White Blackbirds" list of the Munich International Youth Library and was selected in the Honor Lists of the Banco del Libro in Venezuela.
