Playwright, novelist, poet and essayist. With his first novel, The Crimson Manuscript, he won the Planeta Prize. This has been followed by The Turkish Passion, with a well-known film adaptation, Beyond the Garden, The Outskirts of God, The Impossible Forgetting and the storybooks: The Guests in the Garden and The Owner of the Wound. His poetic work, begun with Intimate Enemy, recognized with the Adonais Poetry Prize, he continued with Poemas cordobeses, Poemas de amor and El poeta de Tobías desangelado. With his comedy Los Verdes Campos del Edén he began a long and fruitful career as a playwright, during which he wrote Rings for a lady and Petra given away; as well as the libretto of the opera Cristóbal Colón. His signature as a columnist is one of the most prestigious in Spain: Pueblo, Saturday Graphic, Actualidad Española, El País and El Mundo. Several of his series of articles have been published as books: Talks with Troylo, In my own hand, Autumn Lady's Notebook, Dedicated to Tobías, Sound Solitude, Who goes with me and La casa sosegada, among others.Antonio Gala has been recognized, among practically countless others, with the National Literature Prize, the Calderón de la Barca National Prize, the City of Barcelona Prize, the Theater Forum Prize, the Spectator and Critics Prize, the Quijote de Oro Prize, the Antena de Oro Prize, the Mayte Prize, National Screenplay Award, Audiovisual Media Award 1976, etc. In 2002, the Antonio Gala Foundation for young creators began its activities.
