Delft, Holland, 1665. Griet enters to serve in the house of Johannes Vermeer, who, aware of the young woman's talents for perceiving light and color, gradually introduces her to the world of his painting. Maria Thins, Vermeer's mother-in-law, seeing that Griet has become the painter's muse, decides not to interfere in their relationship in the hope that her son-in-law will paint more pictures. Griet falls in love with Vermeer, although she is not sure what the painter's feelings are towards her. Finally, the Machiavellian Van Ruijven, envious of the couple's intimacy, manages to get Vermeer commissioned to paint Griet. The result will be a magnificent work of art. (FILMAFFINITY)
