The Blind Harpist (HARD COVER BOOK) Moix, Terenci
Author
Terenci Moix became one of the most widely read writers in Spanish literature after the publication of Don't say it was a dream (Planet Award 1986), with more than a million copies sold. Born in Barcelona in 1942 - although he liked to say that in Alexandria -, he lived during the sixties in London, Paris, Rome and Egypt. In 1969 he broke into the literary world with La torre de los vices capitales, which Rafael Conte defined as the most important book by a young author of those years. He won the Josep Pla Prize in his first call with Waves on a desert rock (1969). They were followed by The day Marilyn died (1970) --his most popular novel of that time--, Mundo macho (1971), The uncreated conscience of the race (1976), Our virgin of the martyrs (1983) and Amami Alfredo! (1984). Terenci has won the most important awards in Catalan literature --among them the Ramon Llull with Sex of the Angels (1992)-- and, on several occasions, that of the critics. His travel books - Italian Chronicles (1971), Terenci del Nilo (1983) and Three Romantic Journeys (1987) - endorse his passion for the culture and history of countries such as Egypt, Greece, Italy and Mexico; as well as his historical novels The Dream of Alexandria (1988) and Venus Bonaparte (1994). In the 1990s, he broke sales records again with his memoirs, generically titled The Weight of Straw. The first part, The Saturday Movies, was described by Pere Gimferrrer as "an authentic work of art". The next two volumes -- Peter Pan's Kiss (1993) and Stranger in Paradise (1998) -- were equally critically acclaimed. Success that was repeated with a unique satirical trilogy of the end of the millennium Spain composed of the novels Garras de astracán (1991), Mujercísimas (1995) and Chulas y famous (1999). The last book published by Terenci, The Blind Harpist (2002), was recognized by eleven Spanish publishers as the best novel of the year with the Fundación José Manuel Lara Award. Terenci Moix died in Barcelona on April 2, 2003. His posthumous work, The Immortals of Cinema. Years 60, completes the series dedicated to the years 20, 30 and 40.
