- Second Punic War (218-201 BC) The Roman plan to carry out a double attack against the Carthaginians, in Hispania and Africa, fails before the surprising offensive of Hannibal (Victor Mature), who crosses the Pyrenees and the Alps with 50,000 men, 9,000 horses and 37 elephants.
